Forwarding a message in Telegram without mentioning the author may be necessary for various reasons. For example, you might need to show your boss a conversation among colleagues criticizing a new project without directing anger at anyone personally. Or you want to send information from a neighbor in a group chat while keeping their identity anonymous. Or you want to share a new meme with friends without revealing the source of your best jokes.
There are three ways to forward a message without showing the original author:
- Copy the text and send it as your own message
- Adjust the forwarding settings in Telegram
- Use the message copying bot, Junction Bot
Let’s go over each method in detail.
Method 1: Forward the message manually
How to do it: Select the text of the message you want to forward and press “Copy.” Then go to the chat with your recipient and press “Paste.” Send the message.
Pros:
- Complete privacy. The recipient may not even realize who the actual author is.
- You can send only part of the text or edit it.
Cons:
- Copy-pasting on a smartphone can be cumbersome.
- It won’t work if the chat admin has disabled copying and forwarding.
- If the original author has a Premium account and you have a basic one, long messages will have to be split into two parts, and you’ll lose animated emojis.
Method 2: Use Telegram's built-in feature
In 2021, Telegram finally introduced a setting that allows users to hide the sender’s name when reposting.
How to use it:
- Select the message you want to forward and press Forward.
- Choose the recipient from your contacts.
- Adjust the forwarding settings:
- If forwarding on a smartphone: Press and hold the forward button until a menu appears. Then select "Hide name."
- If forwarding on desktop: In the recipient’s chat, above the attachment icon, there’s a button that opens forwarding settings. Uncheck the box for “Show sender’s name.” The second option, "Show caption," allows you to forward media without text. You can also toggle between modes by clicking the repost header above the input field.
- Send the message — it will be delivered under your name.
Pros:
- It’s not much different from the first method. The feature is more useful for mobile app users, where working with the clipboard can be inconvenient. On a computer, I still prefer the classic Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V combination.
Cons:
- You can only edit the text after sending it.
- Like the first method, it won’t work if copying and forwarding are restricted in the source chat.
Method 3: Automatic repost using Junction Bot
The first two methods are helpful for personal conversations, but sometimes you need to forward messages without showing the authors on a regular basis. For instance, if you're publishing reviews that were submitted anonymously. Or if you’re gathering content in your personal channel and want to retain the ability to edit it. In these cases, manual forwarding can become a tedious routine, and automation is a must.
That’s where Junction Bot comes in — a service for automatically forwarding and processing messages. This versatile tool can collect content from any Telegram source and publish it in your channels. The bot can access private chats, other bots, and even folders. Filtering rules allow you to capture the most valuable information from the stream without being distracted by noise. The bot can automatically edit text, add headings and captions, highlight important parts, and remove unnecessary content.
For our task, though, another function is essential — the delivery mode. In the basic mode, the bot posts messages under its own name, which already helps hide the original author's identity. When connected to a Telegram account, it can forward messages as if from the user or an anonymous group admin. This mode expands automation capabilities and guarantees instant forwarding from all available account sources.
How to use it:
- Start a chat with @junction_bot.
- After selecting the language, the bot will ask you to choose a service type. These differ in delivery speed and the types of sources available. Services are paid, but all of them offer a free trial period.
- You can now create your first forwarding setup. Choose the source from which messages will be copied and the destination chat where they will be delivered. To allow the bot to post, make it an admin and give it the right to send messages.
- That’s it, the forwarding is created, and the bot immediately starts working.
- In the meantime, you’ll find yourself in the forwarding settings menu. There are many parameters, but you won’t need them all at once. The documentation and support can help, but for today’s task, these are the important ones: Author, Title, and Link to the original message. Make sure they are all disabled so the bot forwards messages without showing the author.
That’s it — no more tedious manual reposts.
Pros:
- Helps set up regular reposting from multiple sources.
- Automatically tracks new posts.
- You can set criteria for selecting messages to forward.
Cons:
- You’ll need to learn the setup nuances.
